Character Education

Character Education

If we were to be asked, what is the purpose of Character Education, our answer is simple - we want our children to value what they do alongside their achievements.

If one of our children were to be asked, what have you learned from Character Education, they will tell you - 'it is what we do when no-one is looking'.

At Northburn Primary School, we believe that character education is at the heart of nurturing well-rounded, responsible, and kind individuals and as a result, character is celebrated and talked about all of the time and everywhere. Our school values - respect, resilience, honesty, and kindness - are woven into everything we do, helping children to develop the confidence and skills they need to take on the challenges of the future.

The Commando Joe’s Approach

By using Commando Joe’s RESPECT framework, we believe we have created a robust, well-rounded and fun-filled approach to character development, empowering our children so that they develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive in school.

Character education can be ‘caught’ from interactions in school and the community through positive role modelling, ‘taught’ through engaging lessons and educational experiences and ‘sought’ out by the children within real-life experiences. This all encourages our children to make good choices, show empathy, and contribute positively to their community.
