Northburn Primary School are seeking to appoint a confident and enthusiastic primary teacher to develop and enhance our SEND provision.

In September 2023 we opened a Specialist Support Base for children with autism and who have EHCPs. In September 2024, we expanded and now support 19 children. Some of our children attend some lessons in mainstream classes.

We have an opening in one of our classes where the children range from Reception to Year 3 and have complex needs. The successful candidate will be resilient, open-minded and determined to make a positive contribution to the learning and development of our children. A background of working with young people with SEN needs and behavior difficulties would be an advantage, but not essential. However, you will be committed to on-going training.

The role includes:

• Supporting and implementing the vision and ethos of the school.

• Playing a major role in ensuring high quality education for pupils with an EHCP.

• Take responsibility for coordinating bespoke individual plans.

• Take responsibility for a class of pupils with autism and learning difficulties, supported by a team of staff.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding practitioner who has:

• Excellent communication skills.

• A clear vision of special education and a strong desire to work in this field with a particular interest in autism.

• An understanding of the needs of children with sensory needs including learning and behavioural difficulties.

• Experience and understanding of the curriculum required for pupils with complex needs.

• A positive approach to the management of distressed behaviour.

• High yet realistic expectations of pupils and a commitment to meeting individual needs.

• A personable nature and the ability to work well as part of the staff team.

• A desire to be involved in the full life of the school.

• Experience and understanding of co-ordinating a subject would be an advantage.

• Resilience

Training in the communication systems and behaviour management techniques used in school will be provided.

An application form and further information is available from the Office Manager Mrs J Davison.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Closing date for applications is 12.00pm on 29th November 2024

Interviews will be held on 5th December 2024

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced criminal records check is required for this post.

Completed application forms should be returned directly to the school by post no later than midday on Friday 29th November 2024.
